Welcome to the Age of Whistle-Blowing Employee: Golden Corral Edition

So, since this Edward Snowden wave of whistle-blowing has occurred, it seems that a lot more people have come forward about the operations of certain businesses.  The latest one, which may or may not have already been shown on the news, regards Golden Corral.  The restaurant that is known for serving families of four Seafood Neuberg and a Chocolate fountain served buffet style.  They really take pride in serving families and making dinner a priority.

They have also been supportive of our troops, using TV star Gary Sinise as their promotional star, this commercial aired around 2010:

However, there has been recent developments.  One employee, who is known as "Ben Jammin" on youtube, has posted several videos about how the management handles the food of a Golden Corral during Health and Safety Inspections.  The one that is most damning is this one below:

The video is titled 'all you can eat ribs' which has a follow-up to it as well:

This is the face of the food-serving worker who does not like to get people sick.  In this other videos listed on his Youtube page, you can see that he posted his contact with Golden Corral Corporate.  It will make for an interesting development, but I don't think that they are worried too much since this isn't the first time Golden Corral has been caught for bad food management:

And again back in 2010:

Thank God I know how to cook for myself.

Part 1 of my next 30 day challenge:

I think this is kind of hard to figure out this calendar.  But there are no more breaks every 4th day, its now every 6th day.  I'm going to do this everyday for the next 30 days.  Hopefully something comes of it.  I don't know what Jack-knives are, might need to look that one up.  But I think if I did this with maybe 30 minutes to an hour of cardio every day would really help me lose weight.

Also, I'm thinking of switching to black coffee with no milk or sweetners in it.  I usually make a cup of Keurig Dark Magic in the morning with cinnamon.  P.S. Cinnamon in coffee is pretty god damn delicious.  Also, I might just put almond milk in coffee at home and just get it black when I get coffee other places.

I have a K-cup adapter and use the Marylou's Mocha Mint if I don't feel like cracking open a Dark Magic.  It's pretty good.  I don't always use it because sometimes the flavor is diluted, but when you compare the prices of a pound of keurig coffee to a pound of Marylou's at the store, it's $60 compared to $10.  So there's that reason to never buy Keurig coffee.

I did contemplate doing the No-Meat-Month.  I think it would be kind of hard, but I could just track the number of times I eat meat and what kind of meat it is.  I've been doing the same thing with Alcohol, Soda, Chinese Food, sit down Restaurants, Pizza, and Fast Food.  The good news about Fast Food is that I can't remember a time when I went to McDonald's for food instead of the coffee.  Yes, I go there for coffee, and it's delicious and mostly $1, which Dunkin Donuts can't beat.

Quick Food Blog: Changing Habits

So I made some changes in my diet that I think may change my body weight trajectory.  Along with doing the 30 day crunch routine, which I will be posting about shortly, I eliminated adding half & half to my morning coffee.  I started using Almond milk instead.  It doesn't help that I've been grabbing a McDonald's coffee and 2 cookies during my mid-morning break at work.  But I haven't been to a McDonald's or fast food drive-thru for anything else in quite a while.  I think that's a big step.

I've found myself going to the Lambert's Grocery store during lunch to either grab a salad or a deli sandwich.    But that's only when I don't bring my lunch to work.  It's even cheaper than anything I'd order at McDonald's too.

I'm also trying to eat more black beans.  I tried making a black bean hummus for me to snack on.  It's so god damn delicious.  My parent's love it.

I also went to my local health food store and picked up a couple of things that I think are delicious.  Pederson's Natural Farms Uncured Cherry Smoked Bacon.  Holy crap is this amazingly good.  I cook two slices at a time and use the left over grease in the pan to fry some eggs.  The bacon doesn't shrink like Oscar Meyer bacon does, it's free of all the bad stuff that normal bacon contains and the taste is amazing.

The only troubles I find with shopping for healthy natural foods is the price.  I'm sure that as more people begin to buy brands away from corporate, manufactured foods that aren't healthy, the price may go down.  But I also like the idea of cooking with better ingredients.
